Behind the Odyssey
The Odyssey is an organization in Salt Lake City, UT with a set goal to keep the tradition of live jazz alive within the public medium. In modern times, it’s easy to focused on our digital devices so much to the point where we don’t go out to see live music anymore. Our bands aim to re-popularize jazz music to the general public through live performance in our communities. We hope to enlighten anyone’s day through music.
Odyssey members are some of the most talented musicians in the entire state of Utah, many are dedicated community members who participate as a hobby, others are college students finding a place to play over the summers, even more are studying to become music teachers, and some are current licensed music educators in Utah.
The truth is, we just love music. But the music is meaningless without the friendships we’ve made through the band.
“Odyssey members are some of my most favorite people ever, it’s like a giant crossover episode to me, I love the fact that so many of my friends from different parts of my life can come together and find common ground and just make amazing music” Said Kail Limb, Director of Odyssey Bands.
And that’s what the Odyssey truly is, it’s a clash of many different walks of life, people who would otherwise have no reason to have ever been introduced to each other, becoming friends and being united by the love of music.
We want to share that goal with you, yes you, the one who is reading this. We want to support you, whether you need a place to keep your chops up, or have an event you need a dazzling band for! We want you to join the Odyssey family.
Running a band like the Odyssey takes time and money, two things that are scarce in the performing arts community. But we do our best because we love our fans and love what we do, if you would like to help support the Odyssey consider purchasing merchandise, making a donation, hiring the band for an event, following us on Instagram, checking out our Youtube channel or acquiring about joining the group.
But most of all, come support us at our live public performances!
